Naturopathy: alternative and Complementary MedicineNaturopathy seeks to cure, educate and promote healthy lifestyles. It recommends organic foods; balanced nutrition; specific nutritional
supplements; remedial exercise; remedial massage; hydrotherapy; magnet
therapy, (such as the British-made Bioflow devices); Bach and bush flower
essences; herbal medicine; homeopathy; acupuncture; correction of spinal
imbalances using the adjustments of osteopathy, chiropractic, or the subtle
release of craniosacral work, depending upon the practioner's experience. Naturopathy is, in my opinion, both an art and the science of health, which attends to both the underlying causes of ill-health as well as prescribing the appropriate treatment. My aim is to provide a truly holistic approach. Diet, nutrition and allergies: This includes the use
of suitable menus or diets and specific nutritional supplements. In this
first example: if a child consumes excessive amounts of cow's milk and
refined sugar in their diet, then it is most likely that there will, sooner
or later, be chronic ill-health and lowered vitality. Symptoms and signs
of increased allergic reactions, hyperactivity, obesity, diabetes, earache
and even meningitis may occur. Trauma: A second example is the effect of injury: if an injury to the body or limbs is not treated immediately then a memory of the trauma resides in the affected part. This has the effect of reducing the arterial blood flow to the part for a number of years, (due to the shock). There follows inadequate nutrition to the part and its adjacent areas. The result later in life, in many patients, is of some abnormality such as a twisted pelvis, back or neck; poor posture or a limp; evidence of unusual wear of the joint surfaces, e.g., osteoarthritis, as well as osteoporsis. Digestive upsets can often occur and there is a link to problems in pregnancy, prolonged labour and childbirth. A homeopathic prescription will help toward countering the shock of the
physical injury and should be used together with supporting nutritional
supplements, which I supply, and manipulative treatments offered by craniosacral
therapy, osteopathy or chiropractic. This is an example of the naturopathic
approach to health problems. Hip and knee replacement may be avoided entirely
or delayed if pain is absent and mobility regained.
